We hiked a total of 10 miles (good mountain miles) today, which is a good pace; daily mileage is building. Unfortunately, I realized at that point that my foot was hurting too much to go another couple of days to our planned hotel stay, so we caught a hotel shuttle from the Unicoi Gap road crossing into Hiawassee. We booked a room in a hotel there and will take a zero or near-zero day tomorrow while I figure out a solution. I like my shoes, which are known for their comfort and roomy toe box, but they are a slightly different kind of shoe and often cause arch problems. There is an Outfitter and a Rite Aid here in town. Hopefully, arch supports will take care of that issue for me, and I'll be ready to hit the trail on Friday. It was too crowded at Mountain Crossings to wash clothes or get a really good rest, so we'll take care of both here. I'll also make some adjustments to our gear and load while I have the room to do so. That's the plan. Don't think for a minute that I'm quitting! 15-mile days are coming within 3 to 4 weeks!
Forest's belly is full, and he is snoring in the bed. I have to wake him up, so we can go get my clothes out of the dryer. After that, we will both be snoring. 😴
P.S. It is so warm in here! 😀🔥🚿
