Sabbath Day Pond Lean-to
After having breakfast, we left The Hiker Hut this morning, headed back SOBO on the Trail from ME 4 toward ME 17. We passed ponds every few miles along this rolling 13-mile stretch, making good time. The weather was mostly sunny, which made for a beautiful, peaceful day. First, we passed South Pond, followed shortly after by Little Swift River Pond. We stopped for lunch at about 1:30 p.m. We hiked through Piper Mountain, which is the home to a large Christmas tree farm. After crossing Four Ponds Brook, the Trail went along Sabbath Day Pond. At 5 p.m., we decided to stop for the night at the Sabbath Day Pond Lean-to (Mile Marker 229.8).
